Canada to assist Lebanon in implementing several reforms

Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon Emmanuelle Lamoureux vowed on Wednesday to help Lebanon's Interior Ministry in its reform process, the National News Agency reported.

"We will cooperate with the interior ministry in its efforts to reform prisons, strengthen the capabilities of municipal police in addition to the fight against domestic violence," Lamoureux said during her meeting with Raya Haffar El Hassan, Lebanon's interior minister.

Lamoureux said that she is sure that cooperation with Lebanon's Interior Ministry will be dynamic and fruitful.

El Hassan vowed earlier to work on the central prison of Roumieh as well as others including women's prisons and underage prisoners, some of which share cells with adults.

She also promised to improve women's access to their rights.
